This Time I was competing with John Stevens in his mk2 Escort. The first stage was very slippy with a resulting half spin and a broken fan belt. We managed to bring the car back to service and still managed to be second in class. Following repairs to the car during a couple of between stage services, an improvement in surface grip as the day went on saw us gradually improved our stage times. This was despite a few more slow speed spins and a high speed spin into a bale! As the day went on we continued to improve our stage times against the other cars both in our class and overall. This resulted at the end of 8 stages with a class win by over a minute. As well as the class award we also managed to to claim the second two wheel drive car award, being beaten only by a Manta with a 4 litre Jaguar engine! All in all it was a very enjoyable day with lots of high speed action and claiming us two trophies. The rally was the first round of the Dukeries Motor Club Stage Rally Championsip, in which I achieved a solid start towards, with the aim to improve my 2nd place overall co-driver finish last year.
I will be co-driving next on the 29th March for John again in the Mk2 Escort on the Jane Cowling Memorial Rally at Fulbeck. This is also another round of the Dukeries Motor Club Rally Championship, so we will be hoping for a good result.
